I'm a parent and don't know and I don't know what to look for when buying an air purifier. I want to buy one for my children at home, and one for my father, he lives somewhere else. Any suggestions? Many thanks!!

Yes sure? I've heard that the new purifiers are working great. Epecially because some have other functions now as wel. People experience with extra function on a air purifier? Like cooling/ heating or something else? Thanks a lot :)

The spot ones honestly are a waste of money.

The most important question you need to answer is what are you trying to get out of the air? Pet dander, pollen, smoke or what?
Answer that first and you can be more specific, otherwise you can make sure your AC filter (assuming central air) is changed when dirty and if possible put a higher filtration filter there, provided the fan can handle the additional resistance from the higher efficiency filter.

I'd recommend something like this:

Kinda reminds me of one I made out of various surplus and scrap I had lying around...

Took an industrial DC fan (similar to a round computer fan but larger and more flow, got it dirt cheap on an electronics surplus 'site) and two pieces of plastic-veneered plywood, mounted on top w/fan-hole, and bottom of an automotive air filter for a 5.7L Chevy V8. Filters are about $2 ea on Rock Auto, or $6 with a foam wrap around them as pictured below.

Obviously I wasn't concerned about any particular micron level but whatever it removes on the cheap, reduces that dust clogging up anything else including more expensive filters elsewhere.
