What is the best ac3 audio codec?

There aren't many, since ac3 is copyrighted IIRC, and the only ones that do 5.1 channels are included in those software DVD players that do ac3 decoding.

If you're talking about just the decoding of ac3 sound to stereo on WMP, then there are a couple of them. Nimo's codec pack includes one of them IIRC.

ok, my question is this. I have a few divx movies with ac3 audio. What codecs can I use to see them? Or I might just convert them to ordinary divx audio. If so, how would I proceed to do that? What software can I use to convert divx ac3 to divx ordinary? I tried virtual dub, but it doesn't help much. Unfortunately. thanks in advance.

To SEE them, simply use the divc code. To HEAR them, try nimo's codec pack, there's an ac3 codec there somewhere, but it mixes down the 5.1 channel to stereo only. Alternatively, some software DVD players/file players can play video files with ac3 encoded. ATI's file player is one of them.

Ordinary DivX audio would be MP3 format... You'd have to extract the AC3 stream using Nandub, encode to MP3 using Besweet, then remux it with the video with Nandub.

Just install the Nimo codec pack. ;)

If you have a DVD decoder/player installed you can register (run command: regsvr32) the existing file such as Cyberlink's claud.ax from PowerDVD. Another needed mpeg filter or splitter is still needed and can be had in the filter pack at doom9.org (it also includes an old InterVideo AC3 filter). Nimo's has similar.
