I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card on my home pc. (PIII 500 MHz., 128 RAM, 10 Gig HD, WinXP).
I can afford to spend around $100, so I think the 128 meg cards are out of the question... so I figure I'll go
with a 64 meg card.
I prefer an Nvidia, but I'm not sure which card (manufacturer) and which chip.
Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks

Hands down, the best 64 MB card out there is the GF4 Ti4200. It costs $139 or so.

The best 64 MB card at your price point would probably be the GF3 Ti200 at only $80 from a variety of places. Overclock to Ti500 levels to make it a great bargain.

I second that. But, if you want to keep it around 100 bucks I'd either go with the geforce 3 ti200 (like therapist said) or some variant of the radeon 8500.

If those are the two choices it comes down to, you don't really have to think about that one...

Dude!

Options I would recommend.

Overclock your processor - Should be able to get a 112FSB or better with this processor. It all depends on you MB. What MB do you have?

Get more ram. Add an additional 256MB (think about getting PC133 just incase you want to upgrade your processor to a 133FSB). Will help with any game you play.

Get a G3 Ti200 (Visiontek is good for Oc'ing) for under $80 new or used.

JUST A THOUGHT!
Sell you MB, CPU, MEMORY and VIDEO CARD. You might get about $150+ for it all.
Get an i845E Motherboard ($100), P4 1.6a CPU ($125), 256MB DDRam ($50) and a G3 Ti 200 ($80)
$355
-150 Sale of existing PC parts
-100 Money your were going to get a new video card with.
$105 Now you must come up with this extra amount. CREDIT...CREDIT...CREDIT!

I'd look into getting another 128megs of RAM for your system first, especially since you're running WinXP. When you first boot into Windows, check the task manager and see how much free memory you have. Probably not alot since WinXP has a pretty big footprint.

I considered the Radeon series but, he does say he prefers an Nvidia...
GF3 Ti200 o/c to 500 will be hella good value for $80. On that system it would definitely not be holding you back.

I have a GeForce 3 ti200. It's great. You wouldn't want a super powerful card like the GF4 cuz your CPU will only hamper its performance. Ti200 will work great. Cheap too... *Remembers when he bought his for $210 after shipping*
