If you really want another 17", you can't really go wrong now with any Samsung, LG, Dell, etc. They can be had for less than $200 in Canada now. Personally, I can't wait till my monitor dies so I can get a 19". If you do look into that, a Samsung 940B or 940BF(?) was pretty popular a few months back. It should go for around $250 CDN now, $200-ish US?
I agree with bluemax---the modern R&D research and development is going into the 19 and 20" lcd sizes---but as screen sizes increase, the native resolution often goes to 1280 x1024 or greater---for some---a lower native resolution may be preferred--and that may be only available in 17" lcd monitors.
I have a 19" lcd with a native resolution of 1024x1280---I am nearsighted and it works well for me---but my wife is far sighted---and it bothers her---and has a nice 20" crt on her computer.
The other considerations is refresh rates---most lcd's are not suitable for fast gamers because of the fast moving action which leaves the screen lagging---So hard core gamers usually prefer crt's---and some lcd's refresh faster than others.---there are good articles to be found on lcd's in the video section of anand tech.

Um.... are you aware that a 20" CRT has only a viewable size of 19"? Therefore your 19" LCD and 20" CRT have the same screen view! It appears larger because of the giant frame surrounding the CRT.
Yes bluemax---I am aware of it---and also aware of how much desk top a 20" crt eats up also----but my wife would rather kill me than switch---maybe not a concern to you but I have to be concerned---very concerned---when my wife is unhappy.---she likes 600x 800 screen resolution---and won't let me change it on her computer.
But many current users of crt's will switch to LCD's when their crt's finally crap out---and then its panic buying time---and should be aware of some concerns to watch out for.
