What is the best 1080p LCD TV Out?

Sony's LCD's never impressed me when I sold them. My two favorites(and most people agreed) were Sharp and Samsung...not sure if they both make a 1080p model

I would seriously check out the Samsung 4696 if you are in the market for a 1080p LCD.

That being said, 1080p isn't really worth the cost over the 720p LCDs (4692) at such a small size unless you want to sit pretty close, but people argue it both ways. I almost bought one last week but decided to give it a bit more time for the prices to come together.

The Samsung 4692 is a really nice LCD display though, especially for the price.

avsforum.com would be a good place to start.

also check which companies share panels. i believe samsung and sony share panels. hp rebrands some sharp.

You are correct Sony does buy Samsung panels. I am not sure about HP.

Samsungs are damn nice but Sharp just released a bunch of new LCDs and had a major price reduction.

Low end consider Westinghouse
Top end consider Sammy or Sharp

Sony = played out, overpriced, overhyped, featureless stuff.

Ok, so people are giving decent responses here. Samsungs are the way to go for DLPs. Sony can't even come close.

Pioneer Elite is AWESOME for Plasmas, but I believe they were still at 720p when I bought my 1080p screen.

I went with the Sony KDL-46XBR2 also becaus eit is the damn best LCD 1080p right now. All those cheap@$$es buying the cheaper Bravia series are really missing out. If you think the XBR3 is worth considering, it's not. While it looks slightly classier with the black bezel, the panel is IDENTICAL. The only difference with the XBR2 and XBR3 is the bezel and a better remote. Not worth the $300 I say.

I'm 100% satisfied with my XBR2 and while I admit the XBR3 is cooler, this is the best panel out there in the market.

Now I know some people believe the Pioneer Elite is better, but then that's plasma, and I guess it could be better than the XBR2.

BTW, at AVSForums, when it comes to LCDs, the consensus is Bravia. You hear so much about Samsung because everyone buys them for DLP, and people confuse them and get the Samsung LCDs too, but honestly, the XBR series just blows everyone else away... their prices blow too, but oh well, it's the best shizzle.

Yeah, it was killing me as well. I think when Sony first got in the LCD market they were overpriced and unimpressive; but now they're considered one of the best consumer level LCDs. Sammy's were considered poor LCDs in the dni/e era (and they were, too), but the new generation is supposed to have a contrast and black levels to make a plasma look bad. Thing is, by the nature of video it's all interperative, so what's the best unit will vary by what you watch, your viewing environment, and what you consider as a good picture. It takes a while to find an HTPC, lots of research and footwork.

sorry bro you are wrong. the 46xbr2 is generally anywhere from 300-700 dollars more then the 1080p samsung and this year the xbr series is a little lackluster: i can not see any difference between the two panels and i know what i am looking at/for. last year the samsung 4051 while cheaper than the kdlv40xbr1 gave a very comparable picture.

I meant their prices blow as in they suck... Sony rips people off.. yes XBR is expensive, but you do get one of the best images. I dunno. I sat around staring at the Samsung 1080p panel also. I think both are damn close, but I gave the XBR2 a slight edge..

Samsung makes the LCD Panel for the Sony XBR, and use the same panel in their own LCDs. The latest LCD TVs from Samsung are at least as good as the Sony panels and cost less.

No one here was talking about the Samsung DLPs. Go check out the 4696D.

Hey now, I think Westy's LVM-37W3 is a fantastic deal for a 1080P monitor. I gave the one I had to my grandma for her birthday and got another one for $1600 shipped w/ 5 year on site warranty from bestbuyplasma.com

Where is Best Buy Plasma located (i.e. where would the Westy ship from?) and do they charge tax for out of state purchases?

You can find better deals on the w3. I figure, the next best time to buy an HDTV will be black Friday (day after Thanksgiving), which gives some time to research the best option. I have a w1, so I'd agree that w3's are lower end (definitely muted colors compared to the Sharps, Sonys, and Sammys). A lot of people don't like the coatings on the Sammys and I've read of a few people buying them recently then returning them for Sonys. not that it means Sonys are better, just those people were irritated with some of the features. Again, you have to decide for yourself what's the best.

According to the DHL tracking number I got:

SKYNET
Brooklyn, NY 11223
United State

I think they only have offices in NY so that's only taxed state as far as I can tell. I ordered when they had a special running on 2nd day air for $150.
