Canon

Specifically the i860 (with rebate mine was $100) . . . exceptional photos AND text . .. fast and QUIET.

it'll take "free" for me to have an HP "ink eater" again. :p

Epsons break and clog a lot, at least they always have for me. ^^ No wonder their printers are so cheap..they do have nice print quality when they actually work, though. The few HP I have have performed flawlessly for a long time. Don't the ink cartridges replace the print heads as well or something like that on HP? So you get that in return for the expensive cartridges at least.

I love my Canon i560s from Sam's. Came with a USB cable all for only $75 or so about 5 months ago.

I got an Epson Stylus Photo 825 for $99.00 at W-M and it prints great photos in all sizes. I have run it ragged for over a year without a problem, and replacement inks are cheap. It replaced a couple of HP's and Canons I had for school.

Everybody says Canons are the best deal. I just don't understand why HP is the only company that makes printers with normal paper trays. I think Canons are so stupid looking, and annoying to use with the flip-up loading tray in the back and the pull-out tray in the front. What's wrong with putting the output tray over the input tray, saving space, and looking better? Does Canon think they're saving you some desk space? They're not, unless you take out the paper and fold up the trays every time you're done printing anything.

I don't even like HP that much. Does anybody make printers that have cheap ink and aren't hideous?

HP does have a better paper trays but price the ink carts for HP and Canon and you will see why everyone loves Canon.

I pay a $1.25 per cart on my Canon and $3.00 for my Epson.

I love my Canon i475D I got it for 75 or 80 I think, they have another version with out the memory card reader 470? but wasn't in stock and I needed it quick hehe(old HP died). I got this one specifically because I can get black ink carts for about 89 cents and colored for like $1.37 or something Generic ones anyways. Needsless to say I have about 10 blacks and 5 colored sitting in my drawer lol.

I have a feeling not too many HP owners have that many ink carts laying around :)

NOPE!!! the HP that died the carts were about 20 bucks a peice!!!! as many of you already know. That was just for blacks too. I didn't bother getting color cause the printer sucked for it haha. The Canon does great photo printing even.

I love my i860 and the price is down from when I bought it. My sister had an Epson and it was horrible, we just replaced it with a Canon :)

With HPs, paper gets folded 180 degrees while printing & with Canons, it doesn't? Maybe there's some adverse affect with ink & longevity when paper is folded to that degree?

I know, what the hell is he talking about. Well... it's the only advantage I see why Canon printers have their paper feed start from the back and end in the front.

Dittos on Canon. My i450 does what I need. According to PC World the i455 was the top general-purpose printer of last year (World Class winner). It has 'no right' to print so well (photos in particular) for so little money. The i4xx series is great if you don't do a lot of printing (small tanks, tri-color color cart). OTOH, the carts are really cheap, so if you don't mind changing them frequently...
. The i560 is excellent with larger separate color ink tanks and it is always under $100. now. And the i860 is better yet (5 ink tanks - the extra one is special pigmented black for text printing) but can't always be found for $100. or less. All three are currently at the top of PC World's lists as of the August issue. The i990 is at the top of their photo printer list but costs way more than $100. and only needed if you're a graphic arts professional.

Look for a nice one that is discontinued... You can get the $200-$300 printer of 6 months ago for $100 most of the time.
