EDIT: just wanted to say that i wanted to get the equivalent card of the 7800GT but i cudnt find that one so am getting the GT..

The 7800GT and X1800XL are very close in performance so yes, they are equivalent. They haven't quite come down to the lowball prices that the GTs have, but they're not that much more ($320 is lowest I see right now). Some might even choose it over the GT for it's better features, IQ and overclocking potential.
I agree with Budarow. I'd only buy the X1800XL if it was at the $250 price point ($30-40 cheaper than the 7800gt).Based on the above, a slightly lower performering card like the X1800XL is NOT worth any price premium and should be priced at <$250 in order to currently compete with a $280 7800GT.
