What is the ATI 9600 pro overclocking to these days?

I am getting this card in my new system in the next few days and knowing it is an overclocking monster, I will be pushing it as far as it can go. So my question is, what are the GPU and memory speeds people are getting? I am getting the ATI version if it matters.

Okay, a variation in the question - If you had to make a choice right now to upgrade from a GF3 Ti500, would you choose the ATI 9500 Pro or the ATI 9600 Pro?

Why, and why not the other?

I have a EP-8RDA+ and upping it to a 2500 Barton this weekend. I just can't seem to decide, as I have a credit at a local store and they have both in stock, with no other options like a FX5600 Ultra's or similar $200 cards...

Thanks!

I agree BUT that wasn't my quandry...

I have two choices right now - maybe more later - but right now its between a ATI Radeon 9500 PRO or an ATI Radeon 9600 PRO.

If I had patience, then I could wait and see if they get something better in, but I have been reading way too many posts here and at a number (say around 10) of other sites where people state they would love to find a 9500 PRO with its eight pipelines and ability to OC. HOWEVER, then I read at the same forums and sites, where people believe in the 9600 PRO just as strongly...

It's enough to drive you to drink, which who really needs a reason for!

My credit is only good at one store and their inventory is limited now and will probably always be, so a 9700 NP will not happen. Neither will a 9500 NP. However, a FX5600 ULTRA might in the near future. Its just that when I found they had an ATI Radeon 9500 PRO in stock, and I had read so many people talking about how they would love to find one, it just led me to believe I am missing out on a deal.

Thoughts!

Thanks again!

i'm thinking the culprit to my not being able to OC as high is using the 5:4 divider with my CPU OC.
I'm going to OC in 1:1 and try my hand at CS with higher numbers:)

9500 Pro outperforms a 9600Pro at stock speeds, when the 9600Pro is overclocked, it bects the 9500Pro, but if you overclocked the 9500Pro it might then outperform the 9600Pro again.

Basically, 9500Pro will definately have the best performance at stock, it might be fairly even if they both overclock well, so either:

A) Buy the 9500Pro for definite good performance (ie: if you want to be sure things will run well) - safe option
B) Buy the cheapest one and overclock it as much as you can and hope its a nice overclocking card. - slightly more risky option

samsung list it as it max speed

There has been rumours that ATI lower the latencies on those RAM. I've checked the latency for the RAm on my board and it was running at CAs2 instead of CAs4 in the tech specs.

Just because you cannot oc to 700Mhz, that doesn't mean the RAM is defective.

would there be diff?

Same RAM, I have a reason to believe that my board is the same as ATI's.

After all was said and done, I went ahead and bought the 9500 Pro and do not regret it at all. Used it with my new Barton 2500+ and it flys!

Thanks to all!

Is it made by ATI and a red board? If so i highly suggest flashing the bios in the card and tweaking it to a 9700... the software is very simple, ive done it a couple times for other pc's ive built. And it doesnt require OC'ing

9500 Pro isn't flashable to 9700. It's already got 8 pipes, but it's only got the 128bit memory interface vs. 256 bit in the 9700 (and 9500)

And to anyone who's interested, here's an update on what's going on with some of the Radeon 9600 Pros.

I bought a BBA (built by ATi), believe it to be OEM but that's beside the point. It's evidently fairly new and...
Out of the box, core was only stable to around 450MHz. Ram was 3.3ns and would OC to ~324MHz.

Out of the box, the RAM is running a lower latency than is recommended by Samsung. It's also running at lower than maximum voltage. It's suspected but not concusively proven that the first batch of 9600 Pros were running with a higher Vcore than the current models are. Mine, out of the box, has a Vcore of 1.25V. There's a fairly simple voltage mod you can do to the card, bumping it up to 1.4. I'm still testing mine, but so far it's looking like I'll be running at or close to 500MHz.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend a 9600 Pro now unless you get a really good deal on it. These aren't the overclockers than the reviews and the first batch indicated them to be.

Yep, its made by ATI and I already did the BIOS mod successfully! Its showing up as a 9700 Pro and I have only OCed it slightly to 305/305 - until I get through this my first true Mod and OC!

I am so pleased!!!!

It's good that you're happy with your 9500 Pro but remember that flashing it to a 9700 Pro does not make it a 9700 Pro - it still has only half of the memory bandwidth, which causes a very large performance difference.
