Ignoring numbers and going past hype... what's the actual difference in performance between these two chipsets here?

Is the price difference actually worth it?

Assuming that you have identical systems, save the CPU speed, how much is the actual difference?

What are you planning to do? There would be a very noticable difference in things like Folding@Home, but not such a noticable difference in games where your video card is a bottleneck.

If you run CPU intensive apps like 3D rendering, video editing (actually more memory bandwidth dependant except when calculating effects), Video compression etc you will notice the difference, otherwise hardly at all if your graphics card is the bottleneck.

Even though it is Intel's site you can compair the two on this page and it will show you the difference in time it takes to perform different task and gaming performance. It can't be any more biased than TH. Then you can decide if the price difference is worth it.

Price/Performance sweet spot for P4s seems to be the 2.6c or 2.8c.

Of course, there's always overclocking.......
