IE, an LCD that's reasonably priced, but of excellent quality. IIRC I paid $700 for mine back when other 20" panels were going for $1000 or more. Now going on six years later it's still going strong, but I think I wouldn't mind moving to a widescreen monitor with a little more real estate.

It seems like the general consensus is that most all of the 22" panels are meh quality. Don't know if I'd like to make that lateral move. Should I look at 24s, or what?

There's no one 2001fp equivalent now. A lot of the 24inch monitors have pretty similar prices, ranging from 250-400.

Just be sure to get an MVA panel.

I paid $299 at OfficeMax for my S-PVA 24" Soyo LCD - the panel is great and I've had np problems since I bought it 8 months ago. This is a steal for a panel of this quality. However I have heard that there is a small chance you may get a TN panel - Soyo will use this when supply of the normal panels they use is low. Most likely you will get the better panel, though.

If you want a name brand LCD, then something like this is pretty decent:

You should look at 24" LCDs (nothing smaller) for a true upgrade. I use a 28" LCD (1920 x 1200 resolution) at work and love it. If I had the budget I'd love to have this one for home:

SOYO today comes with an TN panel, The MVA (not S-PVA as you think) is no longer being made by AUO.

That Samsung is also TN, I see no point recommending it to a guy who appreciates good panel.

OP, there's sticky where you should find what you are looking for.

the thing about costco is the 90 day 100% + shipping money back gaurentee if you are not satisifed for any reason on electronic purchases (unlimited time for non electronic items, or some electronic items that they don't count that way, like GPS and the like)

I bought and returned 5 monitors in costco before I settled for my current one (ended up getting a 700$ monitor).
The part about them refunding you the cost of shipping if you choose to return it is extra nice.

I haven't had a single dead pixel in any of the five, they were just not good (which explains why they were cheap)
I really don't understand a company that thinks it can sell a shitty monitor on someone with a return policy THAT good.

Erm... anyways.. my brother is looking to get a whole new computer, I will be building the box, but he needs a monitor.. any recommendations on something that is really good at costco.com?
