that you can check to see if certain pics, articles or other stories are real or not?

I can't get into snopes and straightdope didn't have anything on it.

I got an email from someone showing a shark off the coast of Africa springing out of the water ready to attack a British Navy diver who is climbing a ladder into a helicoptor. Of course, the email said it is real, but I don't believe it for a second. So now I'm trying to refute it. Can someone search snopes for something on it?

The URL you want (eventually) is http://www.snopes.com/photos/shark.asp.

EGADS! You've figured out how to stop stupidity? If it works, you can sell your method and be a millionairre!

I don't think *anything* will ever stop stupidity short of a stern warning the first time someone forwards something like that on, followed by removal of their computer on a second offense.
