Thought it was EPMD's "Da Joint" but can't find it on the soundtrack.

The one that he had on cd that he popped in everytime he stole a car, that is why I referred to it as the cruising song. I checked Amazon.com and they had 2 different soundtracks. The knock on the one selling in the US was most of the good songs in the movie wasn't represented on the soundtrack.

I liked that movie, but it's been a long time. Was he stealing a car everytime he turned on the song? Didn't he have his own car with a nice stereo?

Actually there were two or three different songs. I only remember the jazz one, and the reggae one, which was Armagedeon by Willie Wilson, I think.
