What is STM3S BACKMON? ? ?

I am having frequent lock-ups with WinXP Home Edition and when I use CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart the system I receive the message that STM3S BACKMON is running. Using the wonderful search feature of Windows Explorer I cannot locate a file with that name. Could that program be causing the lock-ups? Thanks.isgust;
