What is software cooling?

On the Asus probe, it shows a software cooling option, what excactly does it do? and should I enable it?

In an nutshell, it tells your cpu to partially shut down when those parts are not needed (a la Rain or Waterfall...similar programs). Should you use it? Do you have heat related issues? If so, sure. If not, no need unless you want to ensure a cool cpu. It may affect performance if you run the cpu heavily. ALso, if you run at a 100% cpu usage, the program has no effect.
