What is so special about the Scott Peterson trial?

Everytime I turn on the news it is about Scott Peterson's trial, but why is this such a media sensation? I haven't been following it at all (never have cared about these long drawn out court soap opera's), so what's the deal.

Laci Peterson was attractive and white. Scott Peterson is also attractive and white - and his girlfriend is downright hot. That's really all that's needed for a media event these days - even the most mundane police-blotter fodder becomes high drama if the people involved look like the cast of "The OC".

The fact that Laci was pregnant also brought out the anti-abortion maniacs who seem to come out of the woodwork every time a media event involves an unborn child. It's always fun to watch them twist and turn, desperatley trying to warp some aspect of this story to fit their political agenda.

Woman goes missing, manhunt commences. Body turns up. Husband gets charged with a double murder. Thousands of phone calls turn up between the accused and his mistress. And he is represented by a celebrity attorney.

I for one am tired of hearing about it, but at least this means the media takes a break from Bush bashing and their 9-11 witchhunt.

because it makes the PERFECT hollywood movie... hell, their already have been hollywood movies about this exact same situation. now, when they actually do make the 'true life of laci brought to you by fox' everybody will 'want' to watch it because they heard so much about it.

i live in sacramento and i hear this dumbasshit during every news broadcast. news isnt news any more, their is only a handle full of people actually reporting important things now-a-days. this countrys sick.

edit: this country sucks in the fact the mass media does a horrible job of informing the people about important things :thumbsdown:
