What is so special about RAZR phones?

Why are they the hot thing at the moment?

Marketing campaign.

Give a phone a sleek name and start it out with television/radio/billboard ads and it will start off great. Then make companies like Verizon and TMobile carry them and offer discounts/other things with them and it becomes a hot item.

Because they're thin and shiny. It's funny, because I've heard a lot of bad things about the battery life and call quality, so I don't really see why they're all that great either.

I just got one a couple of months ago.

Pros:
Best reception and sound quality of any phone I've had, and I've hade many
Very light and fits easily in a pocket
Vcast, bluetooth, voice comand
decent interface

Cons:
A little awkward at first because of the size and placement of some controls
battery life with the standard battery is not great, larger capacity battery is available
Speakerphone is weak
Easy to misplace or drop if you have big hands because of the size


Overall I like it very well and am getting more comfortable with it everyday.

RAZR's are out... if you don't have a SLVR yet you are definitely not hip or cool. Kill yourself now or pay $300 to become hip and/or cool again.

A friend has the RAZR V3. It's a pretty good phone. One of the things I like about it is it doesn't take forever to browse through an image gallery when you are using a Memory Card (like it happens with most hi-end Nokia phones I've used). Interface is pretty decent too. The keypad has a great, solid feel because it IS a single piece of metal. Looks are subjective, yes, but I like clamshell phones.

at the momment? they were hot when they first came out. i think they are overexposing/cheapinging it and tarnishing the brand with the cheaper ones.

are the v3c's kinda constructed more lousily? i was phone shopping and it felt sorta um..more plasticy than the v3m and stuff. maybe the demo was abused i dunno, felt sorta not as well put together. ended up getting an lg vx8300 v3c was just too crippled. both were free with service so price wasn't a factor. but i can see how the formfactor is convenient, fitting in pockets perfectly with no bulg or falling on its side in a loose pocket/moving around

size of electronic gadgets is a very practical concern. personally I think the smaller the better (within reasonable constraint of course)

Function? I use mine for a fvcking phone....it does the job as good as any other.

Both of my Razrs have been piss terrible.


The current one is buggy as hell. Menus don't work, it turns off randomly, and the camera freezes the phone entirely.


Its also slow to navigate between menus and text with.

Is there anywhere to get one for a decent price? Apparently I am not eligible for a new phone from Cingular until my current contract expires in a year. Prices on ebay are about $250 or so. I guess for my next contract I won't just take the cheap free option phone.
