What is so good about Mobile Athlon Bartons?

I know the advantages that mobile athlons have is that they have an unlocked multiplyer, and run at a lower vcore. BUT, both my Athlon 2500 desktop processors OC better than my mobile 2400+. I run the mobile @ 10.5 x 220 or 11 x 210 at only 1.65 volts. My 2 desktop chips can do 11 x 215 on STOCK volts. 11 x 215 will fail on my mobile 2400+. IF I pumped more vcore into the mobile, how much higher can I go versus the desktop chip? I am just curious because I wanted to stay @ stcok vcore. Thanks

I'd take an XP up to 1.8 V safely, 1.85 max. IIRC, the rule of thumb is 10% of the stock voltage, which is 1.65. You have very nice chips if you can get 11x215.

The mobiles are, in theory, better overclockers, as they have the same stock speeds at lower voltages.

Update - Tried 11 x 220 on my desktop chips. One could not loop 3dmark 01, but could boot to windows fine. The other is PERFECTLY stable! That is like 2.43 ghz on stock vcore!

Whats so good about them? I'm running my mobile 2600+ @ 2585Mhz using 1.72 volts. I can run it at 2.7Ghz but I have to up the voltage to around 1.8-1.85 and I just think that is to much fot a 1.56V chip.

What is so good about Mobile Athlon Bartons?

Theoretically they are better cores due to lower voltage at stock speeds, however as you experienced the desktop Bartons are nice chips as well. So, why all the hubbub about mobile Bartons these days?

All the new desktop chips on the market have a hard-locked multiplier while the mobiles do not (required for power savings in a notebook computer).

mobile bartons are cheap and can oc extremely well. they are special because of their price to performance ratio. its hard to beat. 2.5ghz on a barton is roughly an athlon 64 3000+.

The other advantage is taht they UC easier... in that if you are running a shuttle box where the interior is cramped and heat is the prime issue, you can run the Mobile barton at stock speeds and shockingly low temps... Plus the desktop Barton is technically only specced to about 60-65C max temps... past that point you might just be lookin for a new proc, whereas the mobile barton is specced to 100C... notice a difference?

Yes, that is probably an advantage for most people, but not me . My 3 computers all stay within the 30 degree Celcius range

Impressive... I see you are using the Aero 7... what is the fan strapped to that? if you were to add 10 to your idle and load temps that is what I usually run at (1.8 or so VCore...) I am thinking of getting a SmartFan, would it be effective or should I look to something else?
