what is so cool about levi's 501?

They aren't especially "cool" any more. They are 'just' a classic blue jean. They were sort of considered cool back in the early 90s. Fashion trends have moved on a bit. The good thing about Levi's is they've developed a wide range of cuts for different body types. Get something that is right for you, don't squeeze yourself into a pair of jeans that don't work with your body type, just because you've got the idea frokm somewhere that they are cool. Levis has some good loose fit or slightly baggy style jeans that look OK on just about anyone.

i started wearing them in the 80's , why change now?

Well, they ARE a classic blue jean. And if they look good on you, and you're comfortable in them, then don't change. 🙂

On the other hand, if the only reason you wear them is cos you've always worn them, then why not experiment a bit with other Levi cuts?

Buuton Fly ........501s are my favorite jeans.

Damn, I was gonna say button fly, and oh so straight to show off the long legs. Shows off my great ass to the ladies too.

I don't know if they are cool, but I like the way they fit. Those and the 505s are the only Levi's I like.

Edit: I don't want to hijack the thread, but does anyone else think Levis aren't made as well as they used to be? Could it be the Chinese sourcing?

Everything's MADE IN CHINA, what the hell you talking about? They just tell you it's made else where so they can charge you more.

They became cool because they fit so well and were very comfortable. When they became popular in the 80's, there was really no competition who provided brushed cotton jeans like levi's.

Personally I don't like them, I prefer a boot cut jean (slight flare at ankles). Can't stand jeans that taper at the ankles.
