I'm talking about Bands like

Slipknot
Mudvayne
Type O negative

I'm just wondering, I don't see why screaming into a microphone is a fun thing to listen to... I admit... screaming takes talent (Try it... you'd be surprised) Anyways... It bores me after one or two songs... it's like do something different, this is getting redundant. Why do you like this heavy music? I listen to it on occasion if I'm angry and I like hearing the drummers go nuts. But it's hardly my favorite music though. Why do some people like it so much? To me it sounds like a bunch of Distorted power chords with someone screaming and a drummer going nuts.

Yeah :)
And you have trouble understanding how this is cool becuase?

That's like
A Dodge Power Ram truck in 1st gear will redline around 3500rpm going 3mph.
You don't have to ask why this is cool, it just is ;)

Why is rap cool?
Most of it doesn't have any particularly talented background music it's basically just a guy talking.

Why do people like boy bands? They all sound exactly the same, and don't really do anything. They just sing what they are handed on a card.

Everyone likes different kinds of music. If it's not for you, it's not for you. Just go with what you like.

You are right, but you can disect most types of music to the point where they seem pretty dumb. It's just a matter of personal tastes. You can't really get a logical answer to something like this.

I think they have a lot more talent than you are giving them credit for, they just have a different way of expressing it.

I'm the perfect person to ask! *LOL* I jusr got into it about a year ago. I have two friends that both hosted a heavy metal show in Canada and were in a band called "Couldren." I got into Black metal big time, like Dimmu Borgir, Nile and even Cannibal Corpse. It allows to to release all the built up aggression from your work, life and so on. And I'll tell you something else. Those are some of the most talented musicians out there! If you really pay attention you'll see how much talent it takes to play that stuff.

LOL I didn't say I don't think Rap sucks and Boy bands are trash. I just respect everyone's right to choose their own type of music.

They like what they like, let them be, maybe they don't like the music you listen to, big deal :)

those bands are not metal... they are cock rock

true metal is dark tranquility, tourniquet, opeth, OLD metalica, pantera, sepultara....

the list goes on and on... but that list does not include those three bands

Very true, but getting the genre wrong doesn't really change his quesiton.
I do understand your need to correct him though...I was close to, but I try to avoid perpetually correcting things like that. It's one of my habits that drives people nuts and I'm trying to stop ;)

SpookyFish, I've heard Type O before.... you don't consider this heavy Metal? Maybe it was wrong of me to put them with names like Slipknot and Mudvayne... I apologize for that. But this seems to be basically the same thing I'm talking about though. "Thanks" for the MP3.

I agree with the Type 0 comment. They are (the newer albums anyway) slow and deep. Not crazy thrashing metal (they used to be).
I can put in a type 0 cd and fall asleep.
And with 10 minute songs, how could you go wrong?

You haven't lived until you've heard real Metal, especially Doom Metal, like Tristania and Therion.

Heavy Metal isn't so bad. I actually like Slipknot and Soulfly. But like Noriaki said, it's all preference. I can't stand Rap, boy bands and more of such junkmusic.

Yeah, I love metal music, but that screaming into the microphone stuff just doesn't do anything for me.

I'd add Korn to that list as well.

I love the drive of it. I'm an aggressive driver anyway, but some "Dig" by Mudvayne combined with a curvy road can make even the worst day a lot better!!

I'm not a real rap guy, I can listen to Ghetto stuff just like I can listen to Heavy metal.. I can listen to it but it just gets boring after a while. I'm an alternative/Classic Rock guy. I can't stand boybands... if you don't write the music you don't have the luxury of me buying your album. That's all I've got to say about them.

Amish brings up a good point... is Korn Considered a Metal band? I like them allot. I also like Papa Roach, who happens to be on the Ozzfest tour with a bunch of metal bands... are they a metal band?

Type 0 isnt really metal, i thinks its proper title is something along the lines of gothic rock (i could be wrong!!).

I agree with hpkeeper with regards to the three bands you mentioned, but I am a heavy metal fan, and there are far more types of metal than the categories that those three bands fall into. Personally I like bands where the drums are fast, the vocals are of the screaming or growling kind, but it is most definitly NOT the same thing over and over again, just with different notes. If you want to listen to music that is repetitive, just turn on the radio and listen to pop music, if you dont find that repetitive, maybe you need to look up the definition of the word 'repetitve'.

Most musicians, regardless of genre, have talent. This talent enables them to write the songs, play the instruments, and entertain people. Young girls, dancing, wobbling their bits while miming, may look nice, but theres not talent involved, as was proved on a recent tv programme over here called Popstars (where they engineered a pop group using that very process). Sure, there are some cr@p metal bands, where there isnt any talent, just a growl, distorted guitars hiding every note, and a couple of drum rolls, theres a bad side to everything.

Noriaki hit the nail on the head: "If it's not for you, it's not for you. Just go with what you like". If you dont like it, then thats fine, I'm not trying to convert anyone here. But the reasons you gave arent enough for not liking metal in general. There are a lot of bands who have a crisp guitar sound, clean vocals, etc.

Ahhh... how i wish that stupid rap-rock combo would die!! No more Korn, no more limp bizkit, no more Papa Roach, no more, please god no more!!

Why has truely good metal started going down? I'm talking Tool, Sepultura, etc, you never see bands like this anymore...
