Is this a game of skill or is it luck?

I'm trying to find an interesting and challenging PC game for my dad (he is a retired land developer).

Any other suggetions?

Thanks.

He'd probably like it. Most people do.

It's not really luck or skill. It's hard to not do well on the easy setting. More like a "watch what happens" kind of game, and you get to set the parameters. Fun, but gets old very, very quickly.

I havent played it in like 5 years, but its a prety fun game. I was never that great at it ( my cities never got very big ) but it was still fun.

its a fun game, and while there are completey random events that you can't control, you do learn how to build successful cities. Given that I would say that skill plays more of a role than luck.

its skill. much of it is dependent on being able to forsee issues toward the future.

you can get a good copy of sc3k for......less than $10. I paid $7.99 @ BB on sale once about a year ago.

sc2k was pretty cool, but i like 3k better cause of the micromanagement

Ok, its this great game were you build up a huge metropolis and then....destroy it by sicking monsters on it while madly crackling at the sight of the chaos and destruction you are causing.

:D

I think he'd enjoy it unless he's into more roleplaying or action/arcade games.

If you have a CostCo near you, they have a great Sim Pack with 3 Sim games including Sim City for a great price think it was around $30 - $40?

Yes there is. It even has a tutorial city to play with.

Are the instructions on the cd or in the box...I am bidding on a CD for SimCity3k but it is only the cd (box not included).

I really like that game! :)

I'm not very good at it though. :(

I also really like The Sims and Roller Coaster Tycoon.

I haven't played it since the Classic edition was out in the 3.1/95 days. That game rocks though- pretty addictive. I always had awesome metropolises, but screw the rail systems! I shouldn't have point deductions for that when there are six-lane freeways all over the place! :|

(still bitter from never 'beaten' it)

My instructions were in the box in a pretty good size booklet.

I like SimCity Classic, SimCity 2K, and RollerCoaster Tycoon. They are simple enough for anyone to play and they are not CPU/graphic intense.
Never played SimCity3K. Played The Sims and found it boring.

simcity is "hella" old... 1990 or so. was really fun (i had it on super nintendo, didn't have PC back then, had some macs instead). never got to half a million in population though... always got stagnant around 350,000. or so. what was dumb was that the super nintendo couldn't calculate the power grid fast enough so your city had a huge blackout when you loaded the game and 25000 people would move out.
