What is SB (south bridge) exactly??

ASUS M3N78-VM

I dont understand the deal with SB.????????

I have been offered this board in my setup for a phenom II 940 + 8 gb ram + 4830 ati.

Is it recomendable or will it not work well with this configuration ?

South bridge is the chipset on the board that handles things like the pci slots, hard drive connectors, bios interface.

So as for a phenom II 940 + 8 gb ram + 4830 ati setup is this board:ASUS M3N78-VM recommended, will it affect performance in any way????

Check Asus site for motherboard compability with Phenom 2 CPU. That is probably the best resource for it.

That mobo has the GeForce 8200 chipset.

It won't use the AMD OverDrive utility - not sure how well it will perform. I've seen some folks complain it doesn't OC as well as an AMD chipset but I don't really know ...

I think I am begging to see the light, I guess it is most important in respect to which graphic card you choose, nvidias or atis. I guess you can mount the cards on either chipset but there might be compatibility issues if it is not nvidia chipset with nvidia gpu & viceversa. Is that the issue?

I thought this only made a difference for Phenom I overclocking...
