What is sapisvr.exe in WinXP?

On a WinXP installation that I work with, there is a process named sapisvr.exe which has my installation completely hosed up. I believe it is related to IE6. Anyway, if anyone has any information about what it is or why it would be eating up nearly 100% of my cpu for seconds at a time when I try to switch windows, I would greatly appreciate it if you could post here. I would hate to think that a clean re-install is already needed of XP when it has only been on for such a short time.

Thanks

it appears to be something associated with the XP plus pack and MS speech recognition.

check this link out . i believe this dude had a similar problem and was able to fix it.

also, this is a MS page that mentions that .exe (a little bit)

Thanks for the reply. It looks like I had the same problem as the guy in from your link. For anyone else who experiences this problem...Installation of OfficeXP apparently installs a speech package. This speech package is what uses the aforementioned executable. In order to remove them, I did a search on Google for the exe name and found some information regarding removing the Reg entries for the speech pack and now it appears to be running great.

All I can say is that I now have a new found appreciation for the kind of processing power that speech recognition takes. Removing it from my system makes it feel like I upgraded from a PII-400 to an Athlon 1.2(which is what I have....)
