what is safe to uninstall

My hard drive has been getting full of data without installing to much i`ve emptied the obvious ie , temporary internet files etc but i have folders like SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION which has nearly a gig in it a SERVICE PACK folder with 500meg in 200 meg in profile folder , i was wondering if it`s safe to empty these folders i run xp pro

Yes, it is. You may not be able to uninstall the service pack or repair it using file check, though. You can also delete the folder

$NtServicePackUninstall$

if you can do without uninstall option. This one can take up a few hundred megabytes, too.
