What is Rock Opera

I was about to buy the new Green Day album and everybody said it was really good, and they said it was rock opera. What the hell is rock opera? I never heard of that genre before. CAn somebody please explain to me what rock opera is. Thank You.

rock opera means concept CD, which means all the songs are interconnected around a central plot. The album tells a story, so to speak.
