What is required for an RMA

I was wondering, what exactly you need to get an RMA from in this case MSI for a motherboard. It was bought over ebay, so no receipt with it really. It came in retail packaging, but if I remember correctly, I think the guy said it was actually from a major PC retailer, I am thinking Falcon Northwest. Like they stopped using the boards so decide to ebay them off. SO what do I need to do an RMA, do I need a receipt or proof of how long I have owned it, or what?

Actually from the MSI site they seem to warranty motherboards for 3 years from dat eof manufacturer. The board in questions is a dual opteron, so it has to be less then 3 years old right, so is that the only requirment for an RMA?

I'm not sure as I have never rma'ed to msi, most places want a photocopy of the invoice included when you send in the hardware with the rma form and number as well.

All you need is the serial number off the motherboard. Msi will check it to see when it was manufactured, and usually respond with an approval within 24 hours. I've sent several boards in to them. They will send you a refurb board, not a brand new one. You can also check your rma status online in the usa only. I send mine by fedex ground. Takes about 2 weeks from the time you fedex it to receive the new board. You can print out the approval with the msi address and rma number, and tape it to the box.

I had to RMA an ATI video card and the website had all the instructions to do the RMA. The serial number and model number was all that was required to do it. The automated website procedure made it simple and easy. The total time that took to send and receive it back was less than two weeks and I live in Hawaii.

I have just RMAed an MSI 865PE Neo2(p4) motherboard but was wondering if it would be possible to RMA the board for one of their AMD64 boards of equal value.
Thank you.
