Just wondering since i'm watching my dog shred his bone:p stuff seems like processed animal stuff of some sort. its white and gets soft when he spends time slobbering and chewing on it. kinda gross:)

lol yeah that stuff is gross especially after the dog goes at it for a couple days and leaves pieces of it everywhere. I think its just animal hide cut into strips then processed with a crude tannery method so that makes really low quality leather. Then its wrapped together into a bone-like shape. Eventually the thing unfolds once the dog has chewed it enough.

Dog's have a great desire to chew. This is the only way for them to keep their teeth clean and healthy. Chewing on soft, tough material results in clean teeth and healthy gums.

Rawhide is produced from the inner skin of beef cows. Hides are processed by tumbling in huge wooden drums containing water and hydrogen peroxide. This process removes the hair and cleans the hides. After many hours, the hides are rinsed in clean water and put through a splitting machine to remove the top layer of skin. No chemicals are used that would be detrimental to the health of your pet. The outside or top layer is used for car and furniture leather. The inside layer is semi dried, cut into pieces and hand made into different rawhide products. The products are put on racks and then placed in a huge drying room with de-humidifiers and heat. Days later the products are finished and ready for sorting.

Rawhide should be considered a healthful addition to your dog's diet. It is high in protein content but is not a substitute for food. Our basting formula has USDA approved flavorings, is water-soluble and will not stain carpets. It can be removed by using water or a common carpet cleaner, but as a precaution, should be used on uncarpeted areas.
