RAID is a harddrive configuration done through hardware or software that allows striping of drives (writing alternating stripes of data to 2 different drives to decrease access time), or mirroring of drives (creating a redundant image in case of drive failure), or both.

Batman,

My understanding is that striping doesn't decrease access time whatsoever it just increases throughput.
