what is quietest cpu fan for intel775

The cooler I have at present is really noisy ..Thermaltake big typhoon...I have a standard q6600 but will be changing to a e8500, in an aircooled Gigabyte Aurora case, with a Asus 8800gt [when I get it back from RA]. I'm going to change the 3 x 120mm case fans to new really silent ones.I have noise lining in the case.
But when researching which CPU fan is quietest, some fan specs give dba data and some don't so it is really difficult to compare. In any case there's no better info than from experience. Could I have your thoughts please. Thanks.

Oops just noticed comparison test by looking at more searched topics. Will have to read the comparisons. Scratch this post if ou of line please mod.

Welcome greg!
I would suggest a Thermalright U120extreme (if you don't mind lapping) or a Xigmatec direct touch heatpipe cooler. Both are proven performers, I think the GB Aurora has room for either one. My thought being that with both of these sinks you can use almost any 120mm fan you wish. The TRUE you need to but a fan anyway but even though the Xigmatec comes with a fan in you search for silence you may find a fan you prefer. I read of the TRUE being ducted to the rear fan many times, eliminating a fan altogether.
By going this route you won't be stuck with a heatsink and a trash fan you can't change.

Personally I like the TRUE, I have a TR ultra (version before the extreme) on my rig at the moment to calibrate Real Temp. They almost always need to be lapped so if this would be a problem get the Xigmatec.

Funny,,,, I always thought TT did a better job in the air department, I can't discuss TT water w/ a straight face, every time I go to the local Radio Shack to get parts I see their PC aisle w/ a TT water display and bust a gut. I had a salesman try his sales pitch last year so I gave him the "Water in my PC???? are you nuts?" I let him go on a bit and when he said he was getting one I confessed. I showed him a some pics and temps I had online and the next week he bought a Petra's kit.

Thanks Woodbutcher for your reply. I didn't want to get into lapping...don't have the patience for that..but spent more time researching. Eventually I bought the Noctua NH-U12P and set it up with the 'low noise adapter'. This is a beautiful device. Takes a bit of work to put it together to install, but installs easily once the backplate is in place. It sits well clear of chipset coolers and has plenty of room [in the GB case] for the top placed big graphics card and can be fitted to blow the air directly to the back of the case.....and it is soooo quiet.
Problem was, I then became aware of how noisy my three case fans were. So replaced them as well. with the same fan which comes with the cooler. Now, from just a metre away, from the case as it sits on the desk, I can hardly hear it.
Problem is now...of course it never ends...the noise my 2 raptors make is really noticeable. But that's another topic.
Anyway, would recommend the Noctua without reservation.

Cool! thanks for the follow up. It's good that people post the solution for next time a user has a similar question maybe a search will turn up answers.
