what is Pixel Shader ?

I bought a Star Wars Lego game for my gf. She has a gateway tablet, i figured she would be able to run this since it didn't look like a demanding game. She calls me and tells me she needs a Pixel Shader v1.1

Her laptop is 1.5 years old can it not have this? Or is this just a program type thing. Makes no sense to me why this would not work on her laptop. Is Pixel Shader like an option or is it on all the newer video cards no a days.

my gf is kinda mad at me at the moment yelling at me and such. =(

A lot of laptops only have motherboard graphics, not a real video card. You also usually can't add a card so you're stuck with it.

It sounds like the game needs a directX 9 video card and her motherboard video is directx 7 or 8.

It might also be OK. Since you don't list the actual error message it might just be saying that she needs to install directx 9.0C from the game CD or by downloading it from Microsoft, and may need to upgrade her video card drivers.

she just told me. "your machine will not be able to run this game, it requires pixel shader V 1.1"

she has directx 9

blah i might have to trade laptops with her for a while i assume my nvivida 6800 has that pixel thing?

you betcha! that 6800 supports up to pixel shader 3.0

Pixel Shader is built-in technology inside the GPU. Also DX9 has drivers for it. But if the GPU does not have it, then you should change the GPU.
