What is PATA?

I'm completely lost.

I know what SATA and IDE is and RAID0 and all that, but I've been seeing lots of "PATA's"

Anyone care to enlighten me?
 
Just as the term ATA was originally interchangeable with IDE, PATA is as well (the "Parallel" added to contrast with SATA).
