Um, I've Googled, and I can't get a basic enough description.

Forgive my newbiness please, but I'm guessing its human resources software application?

I know my hardware pretty well, but I'm in the dark here.

Could anyone who knows-- or maybe even is certified-- could tell me what it does, basically, or lead me to some resources?

Thanks.

Oracle's main stake is an RDBMS, or database.

This is the overview of their current product, 10g. http://www.oracle.com/database/index.html

They also sell various other software like an Application Server, and Middleware like Identity Management and Forms and Reports management. Their website is chalk full of product info and whitepapers.

It's a company that primarily produces database products and offers database-related services. You may have associated it with HR applications because of their acquisition of Peoplesoft which offers similar software. It's generally considered the most widely-used enterprise-sized database-related company.
