plan 9 from outer space,

best known for being Bela Lugosi's last movie and dying midway through filming and being replaced bu someone about a foot taller than he was.

Fortunately I doubt we're ever in danger of seeing a UHF remake (not knocking it, I've probably seen it at least 20 times)

A personal old fave of mine: Kelly's Heros. NOT because it's a classic an any way. But the silly plot and premise, and some of the really odd characters (Oddball, the Hippy tank commander in WWII?) together create a balance you could not re-do well.

Fair point though - almost none of those remakes were any good (though, surely The Magnificent Seven was pretty good, viewed in isolation? And there's at least one there that wasn't a particularly good movie in the first place.).

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory wasn't actually a remake of the prior movie, either, it was a separate movie based on the same book.

Seriously though... Apocalypse Now, one of my all time favs. There's a gazillion more.
