What is NTMS? (please help!)

There's a folder under our Windows 2000 server called NTMSData and in it is a file called NTMSIDX which is 1.3 gigs! We are down to 80 megs of space and this NTMSIDX seems to keep growing- what exactly is it? Is it safe to just delete it?

Don't take this as Gospel, but I think you should be able to delete it. NTMS is NT Media Services. I don't know why this would be on a server, but then the only info I got from it was by googling it. 🙂

Well I deleted the file and everything was ok until I rebooted. During startup some process was taking enormous cpu time and taking forever to complete. Quick look in TaskManager showed the culprit was svchost.exe. Using the tlist.exe utility, I found out that the NTMS thing is tied to svchost, as well as some RasMan thing, EventManager and something else. When it was done, that NTMSIDX file appears again in the same folder at 1.3 gigs. What the hell is going on here?! 😕

found this at MS.
The RSM database is located in the %SystemRoot%\System32\NtmsData folder. Whenever you use Windows 2000 Backup to back up your %SystemRoot% folder, Backup automatically backs up the RSM database to two locations, the backup media itself, and the %SystemRoot%\System32\NtmsData\Export folder. Normally, you could use Windows 2000 Backup to restore the Ntmsdata folder, but this advanced restore option does not work if the Removable Storage database is damaged.
GOOD LUCK
