I think it's pretty scary how much righteous zeal platforms like Twitter, Reddit, and 4chan can engender. There is instant access to ego soothing. Somehow the right has capitalized on the notion that mainstream media is intentionally suppressing facts that don't fit a leftist narrative. The capitalization isn't toward healthy skepticism but rather to create a bias where someone telling you what you want to hear is seen as credible on that very basis. This phenomenon is not so simple as a loosening of the need for reliable sourcing. It is a paradoxic support for unreliable sourcing as more valid, and this article highlights one of the projective mechanisms used to ward off awareness of this reality. This is a power in numbers phenomenon, except numbers aren't number of individuals, it's number of posts. In this day and age, a vocal minority can wield enormous influence over the masses without being seen as a minority.

Reminds me of this:

So, the Pro-Trump internet is a bunch of basement dwellers. How surprising.

Which is why the term Nazi is used to label anyone that progressives have a political opposition to. Slap a label on them and that makes them fair game.
Same as "racist" , "fascist" and "white nationalist" that get slung around with abandon for anyone to the right of Hillary Clinton.

Or maybe it's just appropriate label people according to their actions.
Regardless, that's not the same. The Nazis were evil, but they were still human beings.
In this case, people are being genuinely dehumanized by being called automatons. But I guess that perfectly okay to you because some of those 'automatons' hurt your feelings.

Like how you label anyone to left of you as "socialist," "communist," "automaton," etc. But that's okay of course, right? It's only wrong when "leftists" do it..

Hey, stop that! You're hurting his feelings by holding him accountable for he voluntarily associates with, and shares a political agenda with! That makes you the real nazi!

Only the right has the genuine objectivity to apply labels properly so your point will be lost on them.

No one but internet douchbags and incels give a shit about what's posted on reddit or 4chan (which is why you always try to bring it into the conversation).

Oh? But the OP cited the NYT and the BBC.

Something tells me social media matters to people.

Did you read the article? If you did you would have realized that the article was a heads up for everyone so that the "movement" can be ignored because it's simply yet another troll for the right.
