I am running Win2k SP1 and I have this process called nopdb.exe, I cannot kill it and it does occionally use up a signifigance chunk of processor time and virtual memory. What is it? It doesn't always appear...

Is it a hidden process? I do have it scheduled to run once a week

Do you have Speed Disk? If so, is it set to automatically defrag?

If not maybe it is part of one of the other utilities like browndogsarebest said.

Edit- I think that it is part of the auto scheduler. If it bothers you, turn that off and I think that will take care of it. Do you find that the time it uses the CPU and memory corresponds with when it is set to auto defrag?

I have it set to auto defrag at 4am or some absurd hour.. but its the middle of the day and the process has used up 15 hours of cpu time, more than idle process!... and its using 30 megs of virtual memory.... seems like a hog

Try turning off the scheduler to see if that helps, you can always put it back if it doesn't.
