What is NBC thinking?

What the heck? did I read this correctly?

"Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" (Thursdays, 9-10 p.m. ET), Emmy Award winner Aaron Sorkin's (NBC's "The West Wing") riveting insider's take on the backstage drama of a late-night comedy sketch show, with an all-star cast that includes Matthew Perry ("Friends"), Amanda Peet ("Syriana") and Bradley Whitford ("The West Wing")

"30 Rock" stars Emmy winner Tina Fey (NBC's "Saturday Night Live," "Mean Girls") as the head writer of a frenetic late-night television variety show (Fey is also the writer and an executive producer with Lorne Michaels). Alec Baldwin ("The Aviator," The Cooler") and Tracy Morgan (NBC's "Saturday Night Live") also star.

Aren't those two concepts just a little too similar? It's like they're basing shows on SNL now.

And what's with Alec Baldwin doing a comedy?

Studio 60 is an hour drama.

30 Rock is a 1/2 hour comedy.

Tina Fey came up with 30 Rock and sold it in a pitch. Aaron Sorkin (independently) came up with his show and sold it. NBC loves Sorkin so of course it's getting on the air. When Lorne Michaels heard that NBC greenlit Sorkin's show he yelled at them about it, how they better support Fey's show.

So now there are two shows on the air because they don't want to piss of Sorkin or Michaels.

I believe Sorkin's will win. It's a great show with a great cast. It's part of a new Thursday comedy lineup with Earl and Office moving to 8 and 8:30, Studio 60 at 9pm.

Sounds interesting. Thursday has always been the day I let myself indulge in a little tv watching, right now I had CSI, Earl and Office. Might as well add another hour to the mix.
