What is my temp?

I am getting different readings for my CPU temp for my FX-55 in my Gigabyte K8NS Ultra-939 mb:

Core Temp - 42-44
Speed Fan - 44
PC Wizard - 38

These are at idle. If my temp is 42-44, I think it is probably a little warm, but if it is actually at 38 it would appear to be okay to me. Is there some other program that is more accurate? If I can't even determine an accurate temperature, I am not going to even try to overclock.

I use a Craftsman IR temperature sensor. I get readouts w/o physical contact but by infra red beams.
I get pinpoint readings by infra-red, and find them more accurate on my rigs than software feedback.
The software readouts are nice to get approximate readouts at any time. They are just indicators and should be treated that way when nothing else is available.

There are sensors that have both contact and non-contact together. Dual IR sensor
My Craftsman was $29.95.
