What is my mystery device?

I just got a new laptop, and since I like my windows install to be clean, I formatted and put a fresh copy of Vista home premium on it. There's one device in the device manager, under "Other devices" that just says "Mass Storage Controller". I just got this computer so I'm not completely familiar with all the hardware that's in there, but as far as I can tell, everything I've used is working properly. How can I find out what this thing is?

Thanks

Is it your memory card reader? If not, go to the manufacturer website and download Vista drivers. If there's no Vista driver, you can try download and install XP driver. There's a chance it'll work. Also, if the processor and chipset is Intel, you can go to Intel's website and download the chipset driver. It solved my mystery devices before.

Ah, I think you guys are right. Nothing happens when I pop in a memorystick, so probably card reader.

But now I'm not much better off. The Acer website has no drivers or mention of the card reader for this laptop (Acer AS-5570). Any chance that there are some generic drivers or something like that?

Are you sure it's not on Acer's website? I looked under Acer Aspire 5570, and it's listed under Card Reader TI Driver 2.0.0.6q.

a friend has an older laptop that had "mass storage controller" unknown listed..I was consulted I suggested card reader after quick glance at his laptop..response "what's that ..?!?" followed quickly with "my wife reads Tarot cards ..is this....." I had quickly removed myself from his presence ....
