What if I come home, and find a suicide note left on my door step from my roommate?

Is there anything I should do about it? Call the cops? Call the suicide hotline? Do nothing? Call his girlfriend and told her that he loves her (from the note).

(this didn't actually happen to me, but to another co-worker who wanted to kick out this said roommate)

Sit down and have a talk with said roommate first, then get some help for him/her. Leave the cops out of it imo. Being arrested sucks and won't help his/her condition.

Tell your friend to get that person some help. But, at the same time don't take any sh!t from him either.

wow some of you guys are really clueless.

a suicide note is typically left for ones to read AFTER THE PERSON COMMITS SUICIDE.

its a little too late to get this so-called person help since they already killed themself.

Wow, you really are clueless if you think people write notes AFTER THEY ARE DEAD.

if it is truely a suicide note, you should probably call someone to come get the body. maybe call his parents too so they can tell everyone else. man you must be a crappy roommate. (you referring to whomever was involved)

his post makes sense to me, they are usually read after the person has already gone through with it

That's exactly what I thought! If he's already dead, then what's the point of the question? If he's not dead and hasn't attempted suicide, then why are we having this discussion? I mean, I would imagine he hasn't attempted suicide. If he did, it would be whilst your co-worker was reading the note. So instinctively, your co-worker's reaction should be finding the roommate to be sure he's all right or stop him from an attempted suicide in progress.

my coworker will get the note around lunch time, and I'll type it up.

the depressed guy was wondering around in the park for 5 hours last night.

Get a present for him, so when he gets home he sees a nicely wrapped present with big bow on top. When he opens the box he'll find what you got him- a personalized bodybag, with his name on it.

I'd just start going through his things and finding anything of value you can take or sell... Obviously he won't need it any more.

The pathetic level of human compassion in this thread is horrifying.
Don't tell me, oh we were just joking, cause, I'll find it funny too when someone starts laughing at you when your down and out or dead.

To the OP - I would say that the legal obligation of your friend is probably nil but I think that your friend would probably have a hard time living with himself if he did nothing and the person did kill themselves. But I also agree with another poster that the cops aren?t the right solution because I'm sure getting arrested would suck even more. If he has a GF get in contact with her and his family and get him some help!

If he wanted to kill himself he would already be dead. All he is is an inconsiderate attention-whore lamer screaming for attention.

It's horrifying how you expect a legit answer to this thread.

Let me sum up what's happening here...
Someone is asking a life or death question OVER THE INTERNET.

You go figure out the responses. Would you be happier if everyone said "I'm not a doctor seek professional help"?
