What is more likely the Power Supply or my RAM

Hello,

I just got done upgrading my motherboard from a DFI CFX3200-DR to a abit AT8 32X. Most of the issues I had w/ the DFI are gone w/ the abit except for 1. I seem to still be getting random reboots. I'm thinking its the Power Supply (AeroCool Turbine 550w) because I have been reading that some of these power supplys after a wile can't keep a steady current. But I'm also wondering if it could be my memory also? It tends to happen when I try to open IE or i'm typing something and click on save. I can almost "force" it to happen by turning on one of my FireWire devices. Not all the time but a couple of times after turning on a firewire device, the PC will reboot about 10 minutes afterwords..

What is more likely?

Try running Prime or 3DMarks. If you don't get any reboots while running one of them then it isn't a PSU problem.

OK,

I ran 2 passes of Memtest-86 3.2 for 2 passes no problem and also went 1 hour on prime 95 (not done yet) w/o issue.

Any ome got any ideas why I sometimes get reboots so far? Its like someone hits the reset button.

Memtest often passes bad RAM.

Do as dBTelos suggests. run Prime or 3DMark one stick at a time.

OK:

4 Passes of Memtest-86 3.2
2 hours of Prime 95
2 runs at 3DMark06 (had ot download it).

All went fine....

But still maybe 4 or 5 times a week will my PC reboot w/o warning. The PC is connected to a Voltage Regulator and a UPS......

um..... i don't know exactly what/where that is.

I did go to Start -> Control Panel -> System Properties -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery and I see under system failure it has:

Write an event to system log (checked)
Send an administrative alert (checked)
Automatically Restart (checked)
Small Recovery Dump (64 KB)
%SystemRoot%\Minidump

Is that the thing you ment???

That's the one. Uncheck it so that you can see the error code(if any) when it randomly reboots. Also, if you haven't, check your Administrative Tool->Event Viewer. Go through all the log entries and look for any errors/events that coincide with a reboot. It should mention something such as a driver application failure. If all else fails, have you tried reinstalling windows?

OK I unchecked it. I looked at event viewer and I don't see any errors today (reboot started 20 minutes after I woke up today). I cleared all 3 logs and gonna see how it goes. Yes, last night I erased my HDD (old school, FDISK) and installed windows from CD.

EDIT: Stupid question... my memory is rated at 2.8v. If its the RAM, would giving it 2.9 make it more stable? 😵

OK,

The PC tried to do its random restart thing. All I did was turn the PC on and with in 30 seconds of it trying to boot it did it. Since I disabled that Auto Restart thing, it went to a blue screen and did some IRQ not equal something other and tried to do a memory dump.

So.... it seems like my RAM is starting to go bad????

EDIT: Nothing in the event logs about the error......
