What is Microsoft Agent and would it crash Morrowind?

Morrowind crashes to the desktop sometimes with no error message. I've noticed that every single time it crashes, agentsvr.exe is running. It stops running on it's own shortly after the crash. My question is, could agentsvr be crashing Morrowind or is agentsvr running because Morrowind crashed? Kind of a chicken or the egg thing.

I found this on MS's site.

I don't know why agentsvr would be running at all. Do I even need it?

I really love the game. It's got a lot of depth and is very non-linear. It's quick to learn, but can take a while to master...well, unless you cheat. The random crash thing is the only bug I've stumbled across and may have nothing to do with the game.

yup, i started playing a little and have had a few random crashes. the graphics look nice, but it gives me motion sickness 😱
 
It just crashes every now and then. I have the most problems with spell effects. Get all the updates/patches from their site, it helps.

Tribunal is also a good upgrade/patch, it actually fixes some problems, and also gives you an updated journal that shows all the quests that you have open.
 
I think agentsvr.exe is the scheduling agent running in the background. You would only need it if you told windows to do automated defrags, scandisks, etc.

I've got the latest patches. I have not got Tribunal yet, but I know I will since I'm enjoying Morrowind so much. My best defense against crashing so far has been very, very frequent F5's!

I got an answer to agentsvr also. It's the service that runs those annoying little characters from the Office apps. You know, Clippy and such. I think it's also responsible for that little dog that comes default in the search menu in XP. Not sure why it's running though. From what I can tell, an app has to open the service. It shouldn't fire up on it own.
