Madonna has come to Eminem's defense in a letter to the Los Angeles Times that ran on Sunday. "What is the big deal about Eminem?" the singer wrote in response to the protests over his Album of the Year Grammy nomination for his The Marshall Mathers LP, whose controversial lyrics have drawn the ire of women's and gay rights groups. "Since when is offensive language a reason for being unpopular? I find the language of George W. much more offensive."

Hmm. <scratching head>

Xerox - the entertainment industry is almost completely Democrats, as the Democrat outlook fits more with their lifestyles, so Madonna hating Bush is normal.

Okay, now I'm really confused.

Eminem talks about killing his wife and speaks negatively about gay people in his music and this is somehow more offensive than our President? Forgetting the fact that his music sucks and that he has no talent, his message is certainly not the one that I think kids today need ot be hearing . . .

madonna is all about freedom of expression, and believes there should be no censorship, she's been the target of so much censorship its not funny.

thats what this is all about.

nothing to do with how good he is, may not be: he has the right to express himself in his music.

Personally I find enema offensive as hell, but that?s just my opinion. But I could care less if other people like him, or dislike him for that matter. Madonna has the morals of an alley cat. Why would I care about her opinion anyway? :)

I loved seeing all the "artists" line up behind the Gores - especially after the 80's/90's years when Tipper Gore was the devil in the eyes of the entertainment industry. :)

In case you haven't heard, Andrew Dice Clay already did this gig. And he was better at it.

Madonna is a media whore!

Her opinions suck...Her music sucks...and she sucks (and quite often from what I hear).

PS: M&M is the most talented artist since Marilyn Manson...LOL

Guy Ritchie?

;)

I agree with Kilgor though - I could care less what Madonna thinks about anything - she doesn't represent anything special to me, and I don't think she has any greater insight into Eminem than anyone else. She's just got a bigger mouth and audience.

no talent?
hes probably made 100x more money then you do in your whole life...
hes on of the most successful rappers today and he has no talent?
the people who buy his albums (20 or 30 mil+ dont know for sure) must think he has talent
words are words...music is music...people who taeke his music literlly should be in a loony bins

Eminem has a right to express himself, just as every other american does. That said, I personally do not listen to Eminem because I have the choice not too, as every other american does too.

I personally find Eminem's music offensive. Many other people do.

Now, you can talk about freedom of speech all you want - and yes, it is protected under the Constitution.

But does freedom of speech include remarks made about other societal groups?

Somewhat, I suppose. But not when a person is selling his words. Eminem may or may not believe the tripe that he spouts, that point is immaterial. The point is that his "art" has no redeeming social value whatsoever, in the same vein as Ice-T's "Cop Killer".

Personally I don't care for Eminem's style. But what really bugs me about it, is how phoney he is.

He inserts those lyrics carefully, not because they fit in the song, but just to get shock value.

Not much different than Marilyn Manson. They act all tough... but not hardly.

That's not exactly true, what about some individual who feels the same way Eminem does about things. Don't get me wrong, I don't like Eminem, but people are entitled to there own opinions, be them right or wrong.

Eminem sure he sounds like a big loser and psycho in his music. But I for one reason think he's a pretty good person. His music just lets him express himself.

And quite frankly I don't think he gives a fudge about what people think of him.
