What is it with the 80's cartoons?

Why do people like looking back on them, why have they become such a pop-culture thing now?

I really liked a lot of them--
Inspector Gadget, Fllintstones, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Just wondering what other folks think of these or others, and why they are so loved--compared to the current crop of toons.

edit: oops, my fault on the flintstones--my buddy pointed that out to me when I was talking to him about that minutes after I posted this. He Man and transformers are indeed classics.

because the generation that grew up with them is reaching the point where they want to go back and relive their childhood.

Call me old and senile, but the Flinstones is not an 80's cartoon. It's from the 60's

How about he-man, his sister she-ra, thundercats, gi joe, transformers, etc. Those were the classics. Watching them now, I'm amazed how crudely they were drawn compared to some of the new high tech stuff. I still have most of the toys..though many are missing limbs after being crushed underneath the garage door.

what was up with the 80's anyways?? they showed a heck of a lot of old shows..

leave it to beaver, the dick van *** show.. mary tyler moore show, i love lucy... etc... was there not any original programming that they had to resort to old programmnig.. :p

oh well, i lived off the dick vandyke show.. it was always funny to me in the opening credits when he trips over the furniture.

i mean, this was all on broadcast tv.. they still show i dream of jeannie and bewitched,. but i think they only show those on cable only now..

star blazers was cool.. flinestones was also good back then.. cant stand it now for some reason.. i dont like watching dated stuff.. im just weird like that.

People like them because they were good, not because of graphics or special effects but becuase of overall enjoyment. I don' t watch them anymore, but still catch myself pausing for a few minutes if I turn on the tv and vultron, heman, or transformers are on. Just a little bit of nostalgia for me.

forgot all about "little rascals" on saturday morning.. plus i seem to recall watching alot of shirley temple movies...

voltron was cool.. ok.. someone tell me, was there ever a 3rd series of that anywhere.. japan or us? there was the 5 lions, and then the other series with the voltron that consisted of a whole bunch of space flying cars or somethiung.. but i remember in the commercials that there was one that had a lion in the middle of his chest...

I think there were like 4 of them, one with cars, bug looking things, the lions, and then voltron 4.

It is still one of my favorites. It actually started in '79 though.

Out of all the cartoons you mentioned, Flinstones is my all-time favorite. Of course, as it's already been pointed out, Flinstones was a 60's cartoon. I like the older loony tunes and flinstones much more then the 80s, 90s and 00s stuff.

:p Cartoons Rule!!!

Related to the subject... Is there a website which tells how the stories of the comics develope? I mean, GI Joe for example had the main story that advanced in each issue. I used to read GI Joe when I was a kid, and I have been thinking lately that what happened in the later issues.
