What is it with Indian people talking on their cell phones in the mens room?

We have about a dozen or so IT consultants here overseeing the implementation of our new ERP system and these guys (3-4 of them are Indian) always seem to gravitate towards areas like the break room, the copier room and even the mens room to talk on the phone. I don't get it...the MENS ROOM??? WTF???

I like to go in there and make a bunch of noise, flush the toilet a few times while I'm doing my business, fart really loudly, make groaning noises. You know, really let the caller on the other end of the phone know where this guy is.

What really annoys me though is when they stand outside my office and talk loudly. The hallway is not your office...if you don't want other people to hear you talking then maybe you should go outside! That really pisses me off.

As an Indian myself, I can say that other Indians will many times talk loudly on their phones even if they're at home. While I've never thought about this, I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that years ago for international calls you had to talk pretty loud and the quality of the signal wasn't that great. In India, the phone lines aren't the best, hell, the power goes out almost daily, but anyway, they probably had to talk loudly there on the phones as well until recently with major changes.

I think it's partly out of habit to be honest.

As for talking on the cell phones while in the bathroom, I don't know, hasn't been soemthing I've encountered to this day

haha calm down. im indian and did not find your post offensive. found it rather amusing because ive noticed that of the FOBs too (fresh off the boat). The indians who grew up here know the american culture and know that all words are forbidden in the men's room...even if you just bumped into your long lost brother.
