I just watched "The Postman" again and noticed that 99% of the people in it were wearing fingerless gloves.

Are all the other post apocalypse movies like that as well?

(A boy and his dog, Mad Max, etc. all...)

Will one of the outcomes of the next big war be the end of glove fingers as we know them?

HELP PROTECT GLOVE FINGERS! No More Wars!!! ;)

'Cause they'd really looks stupid running around wearing mittens, and you couldn't use a firearm.

Fingerless gloves are great, keeps in most of the heat but lets you use your fingers fully.

People in the future wear fingerless gloves for much the same reason as they use metalic cloth for their clothes. Who are we to question future fashion trends? :p

Maybe because people worn the finger portion off doing hard work building up their shantytowns and forgot how to sew and knit.

It's mob mentality. The same reason every futuristic show has everybody wearing the same 1 piece jumpsuits, just different colors (ala Star Trek).

In STAR WARS though they have different outfits. George Lucas must be on to something.

They worship "The Great Sequined Gloved One" of the pre apocalypse 1980s and chant Michael Jackson hits around campfires. Plus gloves are much easier to come by than those red jackets for the masses.

Ever notice that they all have a fetish for wearing black leather in the middle of the desert too (a la Mad Max)?

They wear them because they breathe better than non-fingerless leather gloves.
Usually the post-apocalypse is relatively hot/humid.
Try it. Wear full leather gloves for a day, and see how uncomfortable it gets.
Then try cutting off the fingers and ventilating the palm.
Now you can punch through glass and your hands aren't sweaty.

Did any catch the fact that he watched The Postman "again"...meaning more than once? Why would anyone do that to themselves?
