I have to get a bolt drilled out of my engine. A guy I kinda know at the dealer (he's doing private work gfor me) said that it was a 6 hour job because it was the last bolt and to go to a machine shop becaue it was cheaper.

So is a machine shiop the same as one of the garages they have at the gas station?

no, a machine shop is where they have metal shop machines.. kinda hard to explain.. they just work with metal. for anything..not just for cars... sometimes a bigger napa or kragen will have a machine shop...

You ever hear of a tool and die shop? Same thing. I think that's what they may be listed under the yellow pages.

A machine shop can be different things.

Some do just metal working.
Some do stuctural steel work for buildings in house.
Some do engine work, like boreing out your motor, heads etc.

It does not take 6 hours to drill out/remove a broken bolt, even if it's stainless steel, which yours probably isn't.

The mechanic said 6 hours becasue it was the last bolt and he said no anglar drill was strong enough to do it, so everything had to come out and then put back in.
