What is included in a PowerTrain warranty?

I'm sure the term powertrain is different for each manufacturer, but I would like to know the basics of what is included.

Plus, if anyone knows what the milage/year limits are for a 1997 VW Jetta Trek Edition please fill me in.

Powertrain is usualy considered the engine and the trans. If it is manual, it does not include the clutch. Some manufacturers will include the transfer case ( 4 wheel only ) and the front and rear pumpkins and axles ( differentials )
