I played the first one a year ago and found it very boring. Granted i did not play it much, maybe an hour. I found that i died quickly and did not get to far plus it seemed boring. Am i missing something?

All this talk about the new game is actually making me want to buy it and try it, i just dunno. Maybe i did not give the original enough time? Or maybe most of the world is crazy and likes a piece of junk?

Exactly. Something like Diablo, which you can play online was pretty rare back what, 4 years ago? It was like MUD with pretty pictures.
When I played the single player mode of Diablo, I came to the same conclusion as dark sage. But the multiplayer mode was great =)

if you don't like D&D stuff and don't like RPGs then you won't like diablo or diablo2 but I for one read alot of fantasy books and a typical D&D dork. Yet I hide that fact in the closet :) of course my girlfriend figured it out eventually :)

I only play First Person Shooters.
If Diablo 2 doesn't fall into this category then it sucks ! ;)

DarK SagE:

In multiplayer, you:

1. get to play with friends (up to 7 other players)
2. meet new friends (but run the risk of running into player killers/bounty hunters - which can be fun due to the risk involved)
3. trade gems or stuff to complete a perfect set
4. you're not alone in fighting through the levels...most people will back you up, give you a better weapon, money, or give you a needed health potion.

And if you do die quickly, you'll definitely find lots of support in the Blizzard battle.net forums or here.

The first Diablo was the best game ever. I was glued to my computer for a whole month without playing anything else. I loved it. I also love Diablo 2 except I am mad that they killed almost everyone from the first one.

Playing D2 online you can make a party of 8 and go kill stuff... it's much better then single player, but i still don't think it's all it's cracked up to be. D1 was AWESOME, but that was AWESOME for 4 yrs ago... they haven't done much to update it to today's standards, and i'm really pissed about the graphics and resolution (that's a HUGE biggie with me... especially having a 19" monitor).

Only other game i really play is Everquest, and i haven't played that in a bit either.

Diablo1 was fun, but nothing more.

Diablo2 is pure PR, there is nothing that sets it apart its prequel. And the number of bugs in the game is amazing considering the development time. The games industry is currently experiencing a real slow down in the number of releases and I guess people are desperate for a game to dedicate their time and energy to.

Anyway, forget D2, you should see Z2, the 3D sequel to Z, due out l8r this year from the Bitmap Brothers (they're back in town ;)).

Did the first Diablo have support for 3D cards?
How about 8 player multiplayer?
How about having the option to play your single player character in multiplayer?
How about having 5 unique characters with different skills?
How about having the option to host a multiplayer game independent of Battle.net?
How about having a Battle.net system that is virtually unhackable with trainers, etc...??

OK, that's enough. :)

prontospyder: sorry, but that was a generalisation. Of course 4/5 years of development will result in improvements to the original

<< How about having the option to host a multiplayer game independent of Battle.net? >>

wooooooo! This 'feature' as well as the others you mentioned would be more expected in a patch rather than a long awaited sequel. None of them are integral to the gameplay, except perhaps the support for 3D cards, but this is the one seriously flawed part of the game with people complaining about the jerky sprite movement. prontospyder, at least admit it didnt meet the lowest of your expectations......;)

Why admit it if it's not true? :) Diablo II has totally met and exceeded my expectations!! It's very addicting and fun!

Anyways, I'll take great gameplay/story anyday over eye-candy. I'm still waiting for an enjoyable game that incorporates both. Maybe Blizzard's next title, Warcraft III, will fit the bill. :D

tribes 2 cant wait.

Has for Diablo 2 I love it. Damn game is addicting. Has for you pople who hate, well to bad. You just not the RPG type of person who likes to dwelve into fantasy and play through stories. FPS tend to not have any sort of story and only a few concepts, kill everyone else before they kill you ( Ok, that is over generalized), kill the other team before the kill you, etc.. Nothing against FPS games, I play them too, I just have a wider pallet when it comes to gaming. :)

Well, I love RPG games and online games and i don't 'love' D2. Nothing much has changed from D1, and that's with 4 yrs of development (argued already in this thread so i won't go into it).

I've played Bulders Gate, Planescape, Thief 1 (i have Thief 2, but haven't cracked it open yet), Final Fantasies, Asheron's Call (for 2 months), Everquest (for about a yr now).. and i don't like D2 (won't say i 'hate' it, but it's just not what i expected, and i expected a lot from all the hype).

D3 cards? What good is having support for D3 cards if the resolution is still 640x480 and the graphics so crappy? Sure, there are some new effects, new classes, better multiplayer, but all that could have been incorporated into an expansion, which this really is!

LOLOLOLOL, love Convex last post though... think i'll quote it:

"remember the old nintendo game gauntlet? That sucked ass, diablo is based on the same principle..sucking ass, that is..."
