This is really frustrating me. I am doing a upgrade and I bought a ABIT AN8 with Athlon 3000+ and a gig of ram. I also bought a Sound Blaster 2 ZS.

The AN8 has a LED indicator on the motherboard itself for diagnostics.

I put everything together and get a 25 coming up on the LED, nothing on the screen. So I go back to basics and troubleshoot - ends up being the Sound Blaster that is causing this. Take it out and it posts fine.

Return sound blaster for another one - same thing. Not the sound blaster.

Email ABIT and they say try to RMA the motherboard. Did that, new motherboard - SAME THING!

I looked up 25 and it means it is init'ing the PCI bus (which makes sense). Flashed to latest BIOS and still the same. I have done everything I can think of and nothing works. I even took the whole system out of the case and ran it (just to make sure the card is seeding properly)... no dice.

Any thoughts? I will paypal anyone who can figure this out $20 as a token of my appreciation!!

EDIT: Forgot to mention I replaced the PSU as well to a top of the line unit. Still nothing. I am stuck with onboard sound and I miss my SOUND BLASTER!!

hm wait sorry your post was confusing

Is the Sound Blaster card faulty?
Tried a different PCI slot?

Did you plug in the 4-pin P4 power conenctor east of your CPU?
Is your power supply ATX 2.0.1 compliant? (I.e. have 24-pin connector)

Okay, try this:

1a)Uninstall the card, uninstall any Creative software and driver
1a)Make sure ACPI is enabled in BIOS, then boot into windows
2)Open System Properties
3)Click oh Hardware and then on Device Manager
4)Open Computer properties
5)Choose Update driver
6)Choose Select from list
7)Install "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC"
8)Shutdown
9)Plug the sound card in

1. Get everything working without the sound card.
2. Disable on-board sound.
3. Plug in sound card. Install drivers. Check for resource conflicts.
4. Enjoy

I tried that and it actually worked, my computer booted... I was happy! But, when it booted in to Windows, it did not recognize the sound card. I tried another PCI slot, no dice. I took the Audigy2 out and tried a PCI network card... not recognizing it. No matter what I do, I can't get the computer (BIOS or Windows) to see any card in any PCI slot.

Is my PCI bus damaged? I even tried reinstalling Windows, nothing.

Well I broke down and went to CompUSA today and bought a new motherboard... the new BFG one. It was $150. All is well now and everything is working fine.

I would say if you have a Audigy sound card: DO NOT PURCHASE A ABIT AN8. I have always been a Abit fan but I have probably bought my last one. There are some real problems with Abit AN8 and Audigy (and the new Xifi) happening. Not worth the hassle.
