First of all I must apologize for my ignorance. I've heard people talking about Intel's new chipset known as Granite Bay. When is this new chipset coming out? How does it compare to the current i845G,SiS 648, and the i850? Is my newly purchased Corsair XMS PC3000 memory going to be obsolete? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It's Intel's dual-channel ddr chipset. It will use ddr266 and should be out by the end of the year. It should be faster than anything currently out including PC1066 RDRAM. Next year Intel will release Springdale which is supposed to have dual ddr333 support. You can use your current ram with Granite Bay but you have to have two sticks of ram so you'll have to get another stick.
